International Wolf Center – 10 January 2014 – How are the Wolves doing

Some more updates on the wolves at the International Wolf Center in Ely Minnesota. Check out the video to find out how the wolves are handling this year’s winter.┬áDuring this cold spell, the wolves have had extra food resources, warm straw beds and fortunately, high pressure brings plenty of sun. They did extremely well and are very active.

Yellowstone Bison during Winter

Winter time is difficult for everyone not just humans. When winters become severe the Bison of Yellowstone National Park migrate to areas where they can find something to graze on. This can affect not just the Bison, but the cattle and the farmers. Check out this video to learn more:

Spring is a new beginning in Ely, Minnesota

Spring is a time of Change in Ely, Minnesota. These photos were snapped by Amy with her SONY camera in spring 2013.

My wonderful girlfriend Amy loves storms and she tries to capture them on camera. Here’s a big storm that happened in Ely MN. Im sure there are more photos floating around the internet as it was a BIG one.

Mighty Maxin down the end of the road.

Im assuming that most of you reading have no idea what Mighty Maxin down the end of the road is or what a Mighty Max might be other then a 90s cartoon character. Well you would be right in assuming thats its a character on an old 90s kids show, but the one im talking about is my old and faithful 1987 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Sport pickup.

I wont go into much detail about my truck in this post, but it was my faithful companion all summer long on my trips around Ely MN. Once every few days I would jump in and drive all the way down 169 and then onto Fernberg til the road would end and I would turn around. Heres some of the views that accompanied my drives. I simply cant wait to purchase a canoe and get on these waters!

Snow in April on the Shagawa River in Winton Mn

This year April was full of snow in the small town of Winton right at the end of the road in North eastern Minnesota. The Shagawa River which flows right past the town seems to attract quite a diverse group of bird species.

Our small walk along the river brought some great sights, from swans, to geese, ducks and even a hawk. Amy snapped the photos with her SONY. I was just keeping her company.
